Why Does Rejigg Call Itself Off-Market?
Short answer: because the businesses on Rejigg are not publicly listed for sale, and most of them would not exist as a profile anywhere else. Our team goes and finds owners who have not put their business on the market. "Off-market" describes visibility: no public listing, no marketing book sent to hundreds of buyers, no bid deadline. It does not mean you are the only buyer who can see the business, and it does not mean no broker is involved.
It is a fair question. Rejigg has about 1,700 businesses on it as of October 2026, with profiles, financials and a button to contact the owner. That looks a lot like a market. Here is why we still use the word, and where its limits are.
What we mean by off-market
We call a business off-market when it is not publicly listed for sale. Nobody has advertised it on a public listing site, and no marketing package is circulating to a wide buyer list. On Rejigg, the business is visible only to vetted buyers inside the platform, as an anonymous profile.
A publicly listed business looks different. It appears on open listing sites, a package goes to many buyers at once, and there is usually a deadline for offers. Every buyer works from the same information, and the process is built to bring in many bids.
The term comes from real estate, where agents use "off-market" for a quiet sale that is still represented. We use it the same way. Off-market is about who can see the business, not about whether a broker is involved. A broker can bring a represented business to Rejigg that is not publicly listed, and that business is both brokered and off-market. Our guide to brokered and unbrokered Rejigg leads covers how to tell the two apart and how to work each one.
Where our businesses come from
We find most of our owners ourselves. Since Rejigg started, our team has made about 2.6 million calls to roughly 515,000 business owners who had not listed their companies for sale. About 146,000 picked up, about 22,000 were open to a conversation, and about 3,400 went on to build a profile on Rejigg. Those figures are as of October 2026.
Today our team contacts about 12,000 businesses a month to ask owners whether they would consider a sale, which adds roughly 190 new businesses to the platform each month. Of the businesses live in October 2026, about 79% came from our own calls and emails. Most of the rest signed up on their own. About 4% are represented by a broker who chose to share the deal with Rejigg's buyers.
A profile on Rejigg is not a public listing
The word that trips people up is "listing." A business on Rejigg is not advertised the way a business on a public listing site is.
- The profile is anonymous. Buyers see the industry, region, size and story, not the business name.
- The owner decides who to talk to. Every conversation starts with a request the owner, or their broker, can accept or decline, and details come after an NDA.
- We do not syndicate it. Businesses we sourced are not pushed to public listing sites by us.
- There is no sale process built around volume. No marketing book goes to a hundred buyers, and there is no bid deadline. The owner has agreed to hear from buyers, not to run an auction.
A deal platform, not an intermediary
Rejigg is a deal platform. We bring owners, brokers and buyers together and give everyone the tools to get a deal done: the NDA, messaging, scheduling, the data room, LOI templates and diligence checklists. We are not anyone's broker, and that is the other half of why the deals stay off-market.
On an unbrokered deal, we give the owner a free valuation estimate, but the owner sets the asking price. We help the owner build a profile, but the description and the numbers are theirs. We share context on each buyer who reaches out, but the owner decides whether to accept the conversation. Nobody stands between you and the owner once you are talking. On a brokered deal, the broker keeps that seller-side role and runs the process the way they normally would. Either way, Rejigg is paid by the buyer at closing.
What off-market does not mean
We would rather you hear the limits from us than discover them on your third call.
It does not mean exclusive. Any vetted Rejigg buyer can request a conversation with an owner on the platform. What it does mean is a small field. Among businesses that joined Rejigg in the year before October 2026, a typical profile received one or two buyer requests in its first 30 days, and profiles in the top quarter by earnings typically received three. If you want owners nobody else is talking to, Rejigg Concierge calls owners against your criteria, and those introductions are yours alone.
It does not mean cheap. An owner who has never had anyone test their number often starts high. As of October 2026, the median asking price on Rejigg is about 5.0x earnings, and deals that closed cleared at a median of about 3.4x. Expect to explain how buyers and lenders value a business, patiently.
It does not mean every owner is ready today. Some owners want to sign an LOI this quarter. Others are a few years from retirement and want to learn what buyers would pay. Both are real opportunities, on different timelines.
It does not mean unbrokered. About 4% of businesses on Rejigg are represented by a broker, often because an owner we called had already signed with one. Those are labeled before you reach out, and the broker stays your counterpart. Our broker page explains how represented deals come onto Rejigg.
Why we built Rejigg this way
Most of the market never gets publicly listed. Marketdata Enterprises estimates in its November 2024 report on the U.S. business brokerage industry that business brokers handle only about 20% of the small businesses that sell each year. That is an outside estimate, not a Rejigg measurement, but it matches what we see on the phone.
Many of those owners will never engage an advisor, and many ignore cold letters from buyers. They will take a phone call from a person who explains what is possible, and they will talk to buyers when it costs them nothing and they stay in control. Our co-founder Alex wanted to buy a business through a search fund before starting Rejigg. Rejigg exists to reach those owners at scale, so a buyer can start at the conversation instead of the cold call.

Frequently asked questions
Is off-market the same as proprietary?
Not quite. Off-market describes the business: it is not publicly listed for sale. Proprietary describes your access: you are the only buyer in the conversation. Your own outreach and Rejigg Concierge introductions can be both. A business on Rejigg is off-market but open to other vetted Rejigg buyers.
Does off-market mean there is no broker?
No. Off-market means the business is not publicly listed. Brokered means the owner has a paid third party selling the business. A business can be both. Most businesses on Rejigg are unbrokered, and the small share that are represented carry a brokered label before you request a conversation.
Why would an owner put their business on Rejigg instead of waiting for buyers to call?
It costs the owner nothing, the profile is anonymous, and they choose which buyers to talk to. Many are not ready to engage a broker, but they want to learn what their business is worth to a serious buyer. Rejigg lets them find out without running a public sale.
Can I find Rejigg businesses anywhere else?
Businesses Rejigg sourced through its own outreach are not cross-listed by Rejigg on public listing sites. A brokered business on Rejigg may also be marketed by its broker through other channels, since the broker keeps their own process and their own buyer network.
How is Rejigg different from a deal aggregator?
Aggregators collect listings that have already been published. Rejigg calls owners who have not published anything, and those owners come onto Rejigg directly. Brokers can also share represented businesses here that are not publicly listed, so the inventory is mostly businesses you will not see elsewhere.
