Midway Electric
Built the Month After 9/11

The Business
Brandon Spry founded Midway Electric in November 2001, the month after the towers fell, betting that essential-service work would hold up in any economy. He was right. The Columbia, Missouri contractor built a service-first model, split evenly between commercial and residential work, deliberately avoiding new construction and public bid jobs, and serving customers from universities, hospitals, and churches to national brands like Walmart and Chick-fil-A.
The culture matched the model: zero layoffs in 24 years, a 2009 Small Business of the Year award, and a general manager who walked in with no trade background and rose to master electrician over a decade. With his wife Michelle running the office and two decades of carrying the company behind him, Brandon was ready to step back and put his family first.
Transaction Timeline
How the Deal Happened
Midway connected with buyers on Rejigg in January 2025, signed an LOI in March 2025, and closed in September 2025 with a long-term holding company. The service-first model, the team, and the standards that built the business all carried through the transition.
Deal Highlights
Founded After 9/11
Started in November 2001 as a deliberate bet on essential-service resilience.
Service Over Bid Work
Built on high-margin service calls instead of low-margin public bids.
Zero Layoffs
Not one layoff across 24 years of ownership.
Long-Term Home
Acquired by a holding company buying to hold, not flip.
The Buyer
Midway Electric was acquired by a long-term holding company backed by experienced search investors, buying to hold rather than flip. The thesis was the business as it stood: a resilient, service-driven shop with a loyal team and a customer list built over 24 years of showing up.
