The Strategic CFO
A Growth Partner, Not an Exit

The Business
The Strategic CFO runs two complementary lines from Houston: traditional finance consulting, from interim CFO and controller work to audit readiness, and Near Sourcing, its trademarked model that embeds dedicated bilingual accountants from Mexico inside U.S. client teams. The firm has grown entirely on word of mouth and a 40,000-member LinkedIn community, with zero salespeople and a client roster that runs from National Oilwell Varco to a small Tampa coffee roaster.
Daniel Corredor, a Colombian-born CPA with executive years in Houston energy, bought the firm in 2017 after its founder died suddenly, and rebuilt it from nearly dormant into a growth story. He came to Rejigg exploring a full sale. What he discovered along the way was that he believed in the business too much to leave it.
Transaction Timeline
How the Deal Happened
The profile drew interest from roughly three dozen buyers. Daniel met John Tully in September 2024, and the two Houstonians worked through a full-acquisition structure before landing somewhere better for both sides: rather than an exit, John made a preferred equity investment that closed by the end of 2024, keeping Daniel in control of the firm he rebuilt while adding a partner with capital and business-development muscle a few miles away.
Deal Highlights
Structure Over Sale
Pivoted from a full acquisition to a preferred equity investment that fit both sides.
Word-of-Mouth Engine
Zero salespeople; growth driven by referrals and a 40,000-member community.
Local Match
Houston investor became boots on the ground for a Houston firm.
Founder in Control
Owner kept the majority and the wheel, adding capital and BD support.
The Buyer
John Tully, a Goldman-trained finance and energy professional based in Houston, invested through Cedar Brook Capital with no financing contingency. He wanted a business to build alongside rather than a job to buy, and the minority structure delivered exactly that: skin in the game, a seat at the table, and a founder still at the wheel.
Announcement
Strategic CFO Closes Preferred Equity Investment from Cedar Brook Capital
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 5, 2025 – Rejigg announced today that The Strategic CFO, a boutique consulting, advisory, and outsourcing firm assisting clients with company accounting practices and financial management, has closed on a preferred equity investment from Cedar Brook Capital. The investment positions Strategic CFO to better serve its existing client base, while also enhancing its service offerings and making them more widely available to new customers. Rejigg facilitated the initial introduction via their first-of-its-kind platform that allows buyers to connect directly with high-quality, off-market businesses. “John’s experience and business acumen is well suited to help take Strategic CFO to the next level,” said Dan Corredor, the owner and president of Strategic CFO, who himself acquired the business in 2017. “We’ve historically acquired new business largely through word-of-mouth, and it’s exciting to have John come in to really spearhead a renewed marketing effort.” John Tully, Managing Member of Cedar Brook Capital, now a minority owner of the company, initially contacted the owner through Rejigg in October. Their first call took place later that month, and the two parties signed an LOI in late November. The deal closed on December 27th. “The Rejigg platform made it extremely easy to get connected with Strategic CFO and begin an initial dialogue with Dan,” said John. He added, “being able to talk directly with Dan and build a strong working relationship was essential to getting this deal done, especially as we iterated on the right investment and partnership structure.” Post-close, Dan and John are working collaboratively to scale up the company’s marketing initiatives and continue building brand awareness to increase market share. Dan concluded, “we have a best-in-class team of finance and accounting professionals, and now we’re positioned to really put our foot on the gas and help deliver that value to even more clients.” About The Strategic CFO Founded in 1990, and based in Sugarland, Texas, Strategic CFO is a financial advisory and consulting firm that specializes in equipping companies with the financial tools and strategies they need to accelerate growth and enhance profitability.
